The report that never gets made
Most small nonprofits know they should send donors an annual report. Then the year closes, the 990 is due, the grant reports are due, and the annual report slides to summer — or never. Templates still leave you with a blank page; the writing and the numbers are the hard part.
Not tax or accounting advice. Plainyear does not prepare or review your Form 990; use the figures your board approved and the IRS Form 990 instructions.
How it works
- One form, about 20 minutes. Your totals (income by source, spending by program), 3–6 short stories or quotes, up to 12 photos, your logo and colours.
- We write and set it. Plain-language copy, a “where each dollar went” chart, a year-at-a-glance page, a thank-you page. Every figure is checked against what you sent before you see a draft.
- You get the files. Print-ready PDF, an email-friendly PDF, and one square “year at a glance” image for social posts. One round of changes included.
Eight pages, in this order
| Page | What | What’s on it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cover | The year in one sentence. Your logo, your colours. |
| 2 | Letter from the director | We draft it from your notes; you sign it. |
| 3 | Year at a glance | Four figures, set large. |
| 4–5 | Two program stories | One pull-quote each. No photos needed. |
| 6 | The money page | Where each dollar went · where it came from. |
| 7 | Thank you | Donor names only if you provide them. |
| 8 | What’s next | Goals for next year · how to give. |

Honest notes
- Your numbers, not ours. We present the figures you give us. We are not accountants and do not audit anything.
- Your photos, your permissions. Only send photos you have the right to use, including consent from the people in them.
- Donor names, only with permission. Donor names appear only if you send them and those donors agreed to be listed.
- Not a template. Each report is written and set for one organization.
- If you are not happy with the first version, we revise once; if it still isn’t right, full refund (planned launch policy).

We are not taking orders yet, and nothing is charged. A few questions tell us which reports to plan for first.
Questions
- Why not a free template?
- Use one if you have the time. We do the writing, the numbers page and the layout — the part that takes a week.
- Our fiscal year ends in June — does that matter?
- No. Tell us your year end on the form.
- Can you do 12 or 16 pages?
- Yes; tell us on the form. Founder pricing is for 8.
- When will it open?
- We plan to open in January 2027. If we do, people on the list hear first and are offered the founder price. Joining is not an order and costs nothing.
- What do you do with my email?
- We write once, when orders open. One-click unsubscribe. Never shared.
